    Cleaning Tips #16
Your bucket of window cleaning solution should not be sudsy. First fill your bucket with water, then add the Squeegee-Off concentrate. Doing this rather than adding water to the concentrate will prevent studs.

    Real Life Stories
“Great tools! I just used them around my home and would not use any other brand. I’m sorry I tried other junk before Ettore.”
    -Bob Nicol, Walnut Creek, CA

“I have been using your line of squeegee products for several years now and I have found that you have one of the best on the market. I would like to comment you on a product that doesn’t rust, is high quality, durable and gives professional looking results.
    -Clay McCoy, Christiansburg, VA

“I just discovered the Ettore squeegee, what a pleasure! I did windows yesterday, it was so easy and the windows never looked so good!”
    -Dolores Bravos, San Bruno, CA

“I’ve been looking for a good squeegee all my life and yesterday I used yours. I’ve never used a better one. Give my congratulations to those who assemble your squeegees for a job well done.”
    -Richard Johnson, Gold Bar, WA

“I was skeptical that your product would work on my crumby windows, but guess what, I’m 110% satisfied. My windows are so clean that it seems as though there are no windows to look out. I can not believe the quality of your products. I will show the results to my friends and never clean my windows with anything else, ever!”
    -Janeen Suverison, Campbell, OH

“I thank you for Squeegee-Off. It is a great product and I have mentioned it to several of my friends and relatives. I do not dread window washing like I used to now that I’ve discovered Squeegee-Off.”
    -June Rice

“I would like to say how much I am pleased with your Master Squeegee. It does such a wonderful job on my windows and mirrors. I have bought others in the past and they ended up in the garbage, or having to send them back!”
    -Katherine B., Cleveland, OH

“I just finished using Squeegee-Off for the first time and I just love it. I had always used Windex to do all of my windows, inside and out and they never looked great…not to mention how much work it was and how many paper towels I went through. I did my whole house, inside and out, in just about two hours today and even did mirrored walls to perfection. Thank you for making such a great product.”
    -Sheryl V., Spring Lake, MI

“I just wanted to let you know that I am very pleased with the Wipe ‘N Dry floor squeegees that I just purchased. It worked much better than expected and I am very impressed with Ettore for that reason. It is much more common to be disappointed with a product, but when you come upon one that exceeds your expectations, I will take the trouble to let someone know about it”.
    -Don T.

  • About History
    Meet Ettore Steccone:

Ettore Steccone came to the United States from Italy in 1896 to seek his fortune and chose window cleaning as his profession.
As much as he enjoyed his job and the freedom it afforded him, he didn’t like the heavy steel squeegee he had to use. After much trial and error, Steccone developed a new T-shaped tool, manufactured of brass with a single precision slit rubber blade which dried windows virtually streak free. He patented his innovative new squeegee in 1936 and dabbed it the NEW DEAL.
    Click for the whole story…

    Such a Simple Invention
Often imitated, never duplicated, Ettore Steccone’s original design has remained virtually unchanged since its inception in 1936. His secret was, and is, in the rubber. With the same secrecy and security afforded soft drink formulas, the ingredients formulation of Ettore rubber is carefully guarded. For this is the essential heart of the system, a razor sharp square edge, supple, smooth, consistent which leaves glass perfectly clean and streak free.

This is an original “New Deal” Ettore Squeegee, built in 1937 and used continually by a window cleaner for more than 34 years.

    • Frequently Asked Questions
How often do I have to change the rubber blade in my squeegee?
If you clean your windows once or twice a year, it is a good idea to change the rubber each time. Rubber has a shelf life of 6 – 12 months, so if streaking begins, it’s time to replace your rubber blade.

What tools will I need to clean my windows?
Depending on whether or not you have a two-story home, there are really only a few tools you will need to clean your windows, a squeegee, scrubber, bucket, cloth and Squeegee-Off solution. For second story windows, add a REA-C-H pole to your tools.

What are the ingredients in your Squeegee-Off concentrate?
Our Squeegee-Off concentrate is 100% biodegradable and safe. For more detailed information on our Squeegee-Off concentrate, you can contact our Customer Service Department and ask for an MSDS sheet, which will break down all of the ingredients used in Squeegee-Off.

What time of the day is the best to do your windows?
The time of day you don’t want to wash your windows is when direct sun light is hitting your glass. The sun will dry up the solution you have applied and make it impossible for you to squeegee it off.

What is the correct way to use your Ettore scrapers?
To prevent scratching the first step is to apply a generous amount of soap and water to your windows before use. A scraper will only chip and scratch a dry window. The second step is to scraper your window in one direction, do not scrape back and forth, but rather scrape up then pick your scraper up from the glass and scrape again in the same direction. These easy steps will not only clean your glass, but also prevents any unnecessary damage.

Where can I buy your products?
Our Ettore line of squeegee’s can be found in most major Hardware chains or local hardware stores. Please check our Where to Buy section for store names and details.

Is a lot of water needed on your windows to properly clean them?
A common misconception is that a lot of water is needed to properly squeegee your windows. An excess of water will only make your job wetter and more difficult. A thin application of Squeegee-Off and water solution to your windows using a scrubber is all you need to get your glass prepared to squeegee. Check our Cleaning Tips section for more information on properly cleaning your windows.

How do you clean the inside of your windows?
Ettore squeegees also work great to clean the inside of your windows. Use the same techniques as you would on your outside windows, but place a towel at the bottom of your window to catch the excess water and clean as usual.

    • Meet Ettore Steccone
Ettore Steccone was born in a small mountain village in northern Italy in 1896 and came to the US for the first time in 1922 after serving in the Italian Army during WWI. He came to seek his fortune and chose window cleaning as his profession. He became a fixture around town riding his Indian motorcycle with a ladder on his shoulders and a bucket dangling from its end.

As much as he enjoyed his job and the freedom it afforded him, he didn’t like the tools he had to work with. The heavy steel squeegee with its double rubber blade and twelve screws to hold it in place was cumbersome and frankly didn’t do a good job. He had a better idea.

While cleaning windows, and with the help of his wife, doing janitorial work, he started tinkering with his idea for a revolutionary new type of window squeegee: a T-shaped tool, manufactured of brass with a single precision slit rubber blade which dried windows virtually streak free. After much trial and error, he patented his innovative new squeegee in 1936 and dubbed it the NEW DEAL.

With a small shop set up in the garage at the back of his house, he began the process of manufacturing his innovation and trying to figure out how an uneducated Italian immigrant was going to convince other window cleaners to use his products. Initially, he approached some dealers specializing supplying products to the window cleaning trade. Hey were skeptical. He was told that the squeegee was too small, too light and that he would never be able to convert others to use his new-fangled NEW DEAL.

One of the largest and most well known suppliers of window cleaning tools at that time was the J. Racenstein Company located in New York City. Ettore took his product to them and they summarily rejected it. This time, however, Ettore made a wager with the owner: He bet him the best hat in New York City, that within one month the J. Racenstein Company would come begging to buy his revolutionary new squeegee.

With that bet in mind, Ettore began giving away his new squeegee to all his fellow window cleaners asking them just to try it out for one day on the job to see if they didn’t agree that his tool was far superior to anything that they were currently using. His marketing plan worked. Window cleaners were asking where they could purchase Ettore’s new squeegee and he happily told them to contact the J. Racenstein Company. The Borsalino Hat still has a special place of honor in the company boardroom.

Ettore continued to manufacture and ship product out of his garage until the early 1950’s when he and his five employees moved into his first real factory. Things did not always run smoothly for this hard working, determined man. The loss of his patent, the infringement of his name, world conflicts causing metal shortages which in turn could delay the production of his squeegee; all things which would possibly defeat other men, served only to make Ettore persevere. His NEW DEAL took on a new name and became the ETTORE Master and a name that became known throughout the world.

Ettore lived to see his American dream fulfilled. He saw his family prosper and his company earn recognition throughout the world as manufacturer of quality window cleaning products guaranteed windows sparkling clean and streak free.

He died in 1984 at the age of 87. Today his family continues his legacy by bringing quality products not only to the professional, but to homeowners throughout the world.
